Dear Baby M

Dear Baby M,

Your mother and I are eagerly anticipating your arrival in March 2019. It’s funny – for the first 10 or so years we were together, we thought for sure that we didn’t want kids. Then, one day, something clicked and both of us knew that we wanted to try. Funny how that works, right? Some of our friends told us that they have known since they were little that they wanted to be parents. Others told us that one day it just clicked for them. We never imagined that would be the case for us, yet here we are. And we couldn’t be more excited to meet you!

When your mother found out she was pregnant with you, she was at home while I was at work. She made this sign and left it on my computer on the dining room table for me to see when I got home:

I was speechless when I first read this. I couldn’t get a coherent sentence out for another 4-6 hours. We went to the gym and I was wandering around aimlessly, just thinking about the reality of it all. I thought about my own childhood – the good and the bad. About how I was raised and what kind of father I want to be. I know we won’t be perfect, but hopefully we’ll be perfect enough for you to give you a loving home and a great family unit. Speaking of family, here are the reactions we managed to capture on camera!

Here is your ย่า:

And here are your Ông ngoại, Bà ngoại, Dì Minh Châu, Dì Minh Sang, Dượng Don, and of course, your mẹ with the reveal:

Your mother downloaded an app called The Bump and keeps updating me on your development. At 8 weeks old, you were the size of a gummy bear! In fact, when we went to get our first ultrasound to see you for the first time, you actually looked like a gummy bear out in space. I love how you’re posing as if saying, “Look at me…!!!” as you float around in space.

8-week ultrasound – space baby!

One thing that your mother and I are trying to get better at is documenting things. So far, I think we’ve done a pretty good job. We wanted to share a lot of experiences with you and brought you to some of our favorite places. Here are some of them up to now:

For the first trimester, your mother has been craving a lot of Thai food and noodles (no DNA test needed, am I right?). So far, the pregnancy has been going well, and we just got another look at you on September 14th:

First trimester completed! You’re the size of a lime!

The ultrasound technician needed a better view and asked your mother to flip over really quick to try and get you to move. It was so awesome to see you swimming around in there for the first time! I think you wanted to show off your fitness, because we caught you doing some sit-ups:

Nice sit-up form – look at that definition!

Your genetic tests came back last week and everything looks good!

We’ve been tossing around names to see what we like best. There’s still a long way to go and much, much negotiation to be had, but we hope you like your name. Above all else, we want you to know that we love you so much already and will give you the best life we can.

Love,

Daddy

P.S. Just so one day you can make fun of how old we are, here are a few things that are popular right now:

  • Music: EDM (Alesso, Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki), country (Dan+Shay). Also, no one can top the Backstreet Boys!
  • Netflix: Marvel, The Dragon Prince (which was just released!), Voltron, Great British Baking Show
  • TV: The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, iZombie, Whose Line is it Anyway?
  • Movies: Marvel (Black Panther blew the roof off the box office, Ant Man and the Wasp was hilarious), Mission Impossible (Tom Cruise is still going strong!), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot rocks Diana Prince). Honorable mentions to our favorites: Harry Potter, Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, and Inception.
  • Games: Bioshock (nothing will be able to beat that franchise in my eyes!), Captain Toad
  • Hockey: There are currently 31 teams in the NHL, with Vegas being the latest expansion team during 2017-2018.
  • Technology: 16MP mirrorless camera (for the blog), 1080p TV (but 4K does exist!)
