It’s hard to believe that a year ago we were in the hospital meeting Booker for the first time. As the quote by Gretchen Rubin goes:
“The days are long, but the years are short.”
― Gretchen Rubin
Minhan woke me up at 2am and told me that it was time. I think that was the first time I left the house alert and without showering in over a decade! Booker wanted out – Minhan only pushed for 18min before Booker slid out. He came out at 7lb, 7oz, 21″ long, at 5:18am.
My first thought was, “Wow, that’s a nice pair of lungs he’s got,” followed by, “I’m a father now.” It’s a feeling I’ll never forget. I remember changing his first diaper (I’ll forever hold that against him during future arguments), giving him his first bath, and holding him for the first time. I think back to how I thought I knew what was doing, but really didn’t. Just look at the gear I needed to burp him back then:
Now I just fling him on my shoulder, sometimes without a cloth. I’d like to think I’m getting better at this parenting thing.
Firsts
We’ve had many firsts as a family, such as first…:
- …baby play date (shout out to baby Marshall!)
- …baby date, which was at the Aquarium of the Pacific (sorry baby Samira for Booker sleeping, crying, and barfing on that date!)
- …set of graduations (Auntie Egg and Auntie Minhchau!)
- …birthday party
- …day at daycare
- …hike, at Red Rock Canyon
- …trip to the Schultz Museum (Peace, Love, Woodstock!)
- …San Diego Comic-Con! He didn’t go inside, but we took him to Scripps Pier
- …story time at Barnes and Noble
- …time riding a train at the Irvine Farmer’s Market
- …holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
- …hockey game. Junior Kings vs. Junior Ducks
- …time seeing horses – he was in awe!
Happy One Year Birthday, Little Man!
For his birthday, we baked him a smash cake! Since we’re in the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to host his birthday virtually with the family.
And just like that, he’s one.
This is so freaking sweet and y’all three are adorable! Beautiful family.
Thank you!!
